A 54-year-old man’s family said they discovered that he had been killed in a crash near Clinton Lake Friday, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Family members of the man told deputies that around 9 p.m. Friday, they were concerned that they hadn’t heard from the man since that morning, when he went to work in a field in the 1100 block of East 500 Road, said George Diepenbrock, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
“When they went to check on him in the evening, they discovered his vehicle had crashed into a creek,” Diepenbrock said.
“Deputies at the location at 9:30 p.m. Friday found the man deceased inside the vehicle, which had driven from a field drive through a barb-wire fence and crashed into a creek.”
Deputies and detectives are investigating the cause of the crash, Diepenbrock said.
The sheriff’s office had not released the man’s name as of Saturday morning.
